South Africa! A country as vast and diverse in landscape as its people are rich in heritage and culture. Despite this, millions of people still live in extreme poverty and suffer the realities of a major HIV epidemic. Students Partnership Worldwide is an international development charity that recognises the role that young people can play in lifting communities out of poverty and reducing the spread of HIV. This is where Saffi's role comes in...

In January 2010 SPW will train Saffi to serve as a Volunteer Peer Educator in a remote village of South Africa. Once paired up with a South African volunteer, they will deliver a 7 month Youth Empowerment project. They will use music, art, dance, sports and discussion to engage young people and provide them with the confidence and tools to make positive changes in their community and to make well-informed decisions about their sexual health.

Saffi has been raising money for SPW. So far she has raised over £3500 for the project, which includes funding the training of all the South African volunteers involved. If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause please visit http://www.justgiving.com/saffigoestosouthafrica.
